The news

Among roughly 26 items on the agenda, the board takes up two tentative labor agreements covering classified employees — the bargaining units that include instructional-support and maintenance classifications — and is asked to extend the superintendent's and three top administrators' contracts through 2029.

Item bullets (consequence order)

  • 2.7-A / 2.8-A — AFSCME tentative agreement. The agenda calls for the board to "Disclose the Tentative Agreement with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, Local 2229, Council 36 in accordance with provisions of AB 1200, and conduct a Public Hearing on the components of the disclosure," then separately to "Approve the Tentative Agreement... amending Article VII: Compensation and Article VIII: Health and Welfare Benefits," per the district's staff recommendation 16.
  • 2.9-A / 2.10-A — CSEA tentative agreement. The agenda calls for a disclosure/public hearing on a tentative agreement with the California School Employees Association, ABC Chapter #24, then board approval of that agreement "amending Article VII: Compensation, Article X: Hours and Overtime and Article XIX: Grievance Procedures," per the district's staff recommendation 16.
  • 2.11-A — Management/Confidential compensation. The agenda asks the board to "Approve the Tentative Agreement between the Board of Education and the Management/Confidential Employees regarding Compensation," per staff's recommendation 16.
  • 2.12-A — Superintendent and cabinet contract extensions. The agenda proposes approving "contract amendments for Dr. Gina Zietlow, Superintendent; Mr. Toan Nguyen, Deputy Superintendent/Chief Financial Officer; Dr. Carol Castro, Assistant Superintendent-Academic Services; and Dr. Joseph Fraser, Assistant Superintendent-Human Resources; with extension of their contracts through June 30, 2029," per staff's recommendation 16.
  • 4.2-A — Alondra Boulevard property. The agenda proposes "Resolution 26-13 reaffirming that the Alondra Boulevard property is surplus and authorizing staff to continue the process of offering the property for sale," per staff's recommendation 16.
  • 4.1-C — Revolving Cash Fund. A consent item proposes "Resolution 26-09 to temporarily increase the Revolving Cash Fund from $75,000 to $500,000," which the agenda ties to the district's transition to a new HR/payroll system (BEST Advantage HCM) with LACOE, per the agenda's own text 16.

Also on the agenda: resolutions recognizing Filipino American History Month (1.2-A, with a separate presentation item) and Red Ribbon Week (1.3-A), a resolution in support of Proposition 3 (1.4-A), a new Assistant Director-Nutrition Services job classification (2.6-A), and several consent-calendar personnel/credentialing items, per the published agenda 16.

Closed Session (preceding Open Session)

The posted Closed Session agenda lists five matters of public-employee discipline/dismissal/release/evaluation, a superintendent evaluation, labor-negotiator conferences on agreements with ABCFT/AFSCME/CSEA, a real-property negotiator conference concerning the Alondra Parking Lot and Benito Juarez Elementary School, seven existing-litigation matters (case numbers published), a special-education settlement matter, and one anticipated-litigation matter — all per the district's own Closed Session agenda 16.
